Carnival Success 2013 PDF Print E-mail

The sun shone brightly and our Little Chefs did us proud!  We won Best Childrens Entry and Best Overall Entry.  Congratulations everyone!

If people hadn't realised the procession had started, then we certainly woke them up with the banging of pans and "5...4...3...2...1.... Stirfry!".  There were a few broken spoons and dented pans by the end of it all - Sorry Mums!  bnt048a

The fundraising stall also did brilliantly!  When I asked where to find it, I was told "Just follow the smoke!" and there I found a busy crew and nice long line of people waiting to buy a tasty burger and a tempting selection of drinks on the tombola.  I found my treasure though in the Paracord bracelets and keyfobs.  Fantastic effort from all involved there, especially cooking burgers in the heat of the sun!

As with the Summer Camp, if you have any pictures you are happy to share with the other Great Amwell Members, please send them to the team at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it   and keep your eye on the gallery.HERE.

Family Camp 2013 PDF Print E-mail

This year Great Amwell hosted a record 180 (I think) campers and Day visitors for their Family camp.  The wonderful location of the Group HQ provide both ample space and convenient facilities to host the camp and, as with previous years, we made full use of the fields to the back and immediately adjacent to the HQ.

Once the tents were all up, Friday evening began with everyone decorating glass jars to make nightlight lanterns for a short candlelit procession and gathering.  Between the rain showers, it was a fitting calm moment on the summer solstice with the moon shining in the sky in preparation for it's "supermoon" or perigree full moon.

gacampzipOnce the Camp officially opened, Saturday was a day of fun.  Everyone was issued with their special Passports for the "Wish you were here.." travel-themed experience.  They then spent the day getting wet on the water slide at Altlantis, crash-landing with the dodgy pilots and crew of "2nd Choice Holidays", hanging high on the zip wire or enjoying the crafts, cocktails & sandcastles at Blackpool and Hawaii.  After dinner was the customary wide-game: Fast-paced, furious, chaotic and at times perhaps a little painful - I still have no idea who actually won! The campfire rounded the day's events off in the traditional way.  This moment was also taken to say a big Thank You and wish all the best to the Leaders who were there for their final Family Camp before hanging up their red neckscarves: In the coming months Akela from Otters pack and Badger & Mole from Bears Beavers Colony will leaving Great Amwell after many years of service.  They will be missed.

Sunday morning clear-up and de-camping was followed by a quick A-Z scavenger hunt around the site before the flag was lowered to mark the end. Everyone got a goodie bag which contained their Family Camp 2013 cloth badge for their blanket to remind them of a fun weekend.

Well done to all involved in planning and organisation and to the whole team for their part in making the camp a success.

Photos will eventually be placed in the gallery on this site. HERE.
